Load shedding means the irregular of supply of electricity. It happens when the production of power is less than demand. We have fewer power plants to generate power compared to the huge demand. As a result, most often short fall of electricity occurs. So to cope with the shortage of power generation, the flow of electricity of some areas is stopped for some time. This results in load- shedding. Load-shedding causes a great harm to the socio-economic development of a country. Mills and factories are paralysed for the time being. Shops, hospitals etc are affected by it. Production is hampered owing to it. Domestic life also becomes painful. Students, housewives, patients fall a victim to load-shedding. As Joad-shedding causes great sufferings to the people and irreparable loss to the economy, it should not be continued. More power-plants should be set up. Apart from this, electricity should be distributed in a planned way. Above all, the government should take effective steps to stop load-shedding.

বিদ্যুৎ বিভ্রাট অর্থ হচ্ছে বিদ্যুতের সরবরাহে বিরতি। যখন চাহিদার চেয়ে উৎপাদনের পরিমাণ কম থাকে, তখন বিদ্যুৎ বিভ্রাট ঘটে থাকে। বিশাল চাহিদার তুলনায় আমাদের রয়েছে স্বল্পসংখ্যক বিদ্যুৎ উৎপাদন কেন্দ্র। ফলে প্রায়ই বিদ্যুৎ বিভ্রাট ঘটে থাকে। তাই বিদ্যুৎ উৎপাদনের ঘাটতির সাথে তাল মেলানোর জন্য কতিপয় এলাকার বিদ্যুৎ প্রবাহ কিছু সময়ের জন্য কথ রাখা হয়। এর ফলে বিদ্যুৎ বিভ্রাট ঘটে থাকে। বিদ্যুৎ বিভ্রাট একটি দেশের আর্থ-সামাজিক উন্নয়নে বিরাট ক্ষতির কারণ হয়ে থাকে। নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের জন্য কল-কারখানা অচল হয়ে পড়ে। দোকান-পাট, হাসপাতাল, ইত্যাদিতেও এর প্রভাব পড়ে। এর ফলে উৎপাদন ব্যাহত হয়। গৃহস্থালির জীবনও যন্ত্রণাদায়ক হয়। ছাত্র-ছাত্রী, গৃহিণী, রোগীরা বিদ্যুৎ বিভ্রাটের শিকার হয়। বিদ্যুৎবিভ্রাট যেহেতু মানুষের বিরাট ভোগান্তির কারণ হয় এবং দেশের অর্থনীতির অপূরণীয় ক্ষতি করে, তাই এটা চলতে দেয়া যায় না। অধিক বিদ্যুৎ উৎপাদন কেন্দ্র স্থাপন করতে হবে। এছাড়াও পরিকল্পিত উপায়ে বিদ্যুৎ বিতরণ করতে হবে। সর্বোপরি, সরকারকে বিদ্যুৎ বিভ্রাট বন্ধ করার জন্য ফলপ্রসূ পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করতে হবে।

Load shedding is the breaking off the electric current or the flow of electron on certain lines for a certain period. It happens when the production of power is less than the demand. There are many causes of load shedding. The insufficient generation of electricity in our country is the main cause of load- shedding. Misuse of electricity is another cause. Besides, Illegal connection of electricity is another reason for load shedding. Our government is not quite sincere to produce electricity in proportion to our demand. It is also responsible for load shedding. The bad effects of load shedding are beyond description. It creates serious problems in the socio-economic development of the country. Due to load shedding, mills and factories become standstill, industrial production decreases, workers become workless. As a result, our economy is affected seriously. It also creates serious problems in domestic life. Fresh food preserved in refrigerator gets rotten. The merchandise preserved in cold storage get spoiled. The housewife gropes in the darkness in the kitchen. It disturbs the study of the students. They cannot take preparation for the examinations as frequent load shedding occurs at night. They suffer terribly on the nights before their examinations. The patients also suffer terribly because operation stops in hospitals for load shedding. Load shedding at night also encourages the miscreants to commit robbery, snatching etc. However, this problem should be solved at any cost. Our government should establish more power stations produce more electricity. Illegal connection and system loss must be stopped to remove load shedding. Corruptions in this sector must be curbed with an iron hand. An all out effort should be made to stop load-shedding.
